About Us
The Welsh Mountain Sheep Society – Promoting the breed and a sustainable
way of life in upland Wales
The Society has over 400 members, farming in some of the most difficult areas in
Wales where it is essential to keep a special breed of sheep that is able to
withstand the difficult climatic conditions. These sheep are the Welsh Mountain, a
breed dating back to the Middle Ages, but one that is as relevant now and for the
future as it ever was in the past. Unrivalled in its natural upland environment, its
intrinsic qualities make it an ideal breed for lowland farms also.
